Congratulations to Umukoula Halaholo, Year 12, who recently received the Archbishop of Sydney Award for Student Excellence at a ceremony held at St Mary’s Cathedral College Hall .
This award is an annual recognition by the Archbishop of Sydney for the outstanding young women and men in our Catholic schools. It is an important way of highlighting the significant contribution that young people make to their school and local communities. Specifically, this award recognises those young people who give witness to their Christian values and who actively contribute to the faith life of the school and their parish. Importantly, these young people are practicing Catholics who show responsible participation in the life, mission and work of the Catholic faith community.
Umukoula passionately and actively practices her faith at St Vincent de Paul Catholic Church Redfern. As part of her practice, she is involved in Word Celebrations and yearly pilgrimages. Umukoula is also committed to her service. On Sundays she is involved in Mission work in Hyde Park and each Saturday she is involved in the maintenance and cleaning of the church. A talented musician, Umukoula also uses her gift of singing to sing at Mass each week. At school Umukoula gives witness to Gospel values in all that she does. She is passionate about liturgies and assists others, encouraging participation in prayer and worship at the College. Umukoula is a young woman of strong faith and deep commitment.
